This Week in Django
Monday, 1st September, 2008 // 10:44 p.m.This week in Django is an amazing podcast conducted by Michael Trier and Brian Rosner. Its been a while since they started doing podcasts. Congratulations on reaching the 36th week in Django. 9 good old months and yet they have good things coming all the way.
Every often they interview a django related person and share his experiences with django. This time its going to be none other than James Bennett who is the release manager of Django and author of the book "Practical Django Projects". Do check that out.
Every podcast starts off with 4 major sections:
1). "Big News" section: They show all the latest happenings and changes in and around django.
2). "Interview" section: The interview takes off with a brief introduction of the guest and goes into How Django is used in day to day life of the guest?
3). "Tracking trunk" section: A regular update on development of Django. They discuss features which are being developed for django.
4). "Community Catchup" section: This is the more intresting part for me. They highlight various bug tickets which are resolved and merged into the django trunk. They also highlight the articles posted regarding django. It's a tough job to keep track of all the happenings regarding "django". But TWID does a great job in community catch up and keep us up to date.
5). "Tip of the Week" section: This is the final touch to the podcast where they show a small tip using django. This is incredibly useful.
The podcast is available in 3 formats. AAC format which includes the visual part. We can see the visuals of the what the team discuss. This is very cool. MP3 edition which contains the audio part of the podcast. Ogg Edition which is again another format.
Ok I really don't have time to sit and listen to all this stuff. Well such people are also highly entertained. Each podcast is written as a blog post describing all the highlights of the podcast. You can simply check that out. Cool ain't it.
If you really want to catchup with behind the scenes of this podcast you can follow #twiderrific on twitter. They post the live happenings of "This week in Django". [Ex: TWiD Live! Watch at http://tinyurl.com/6jewct]. You can join the podcast too. There is an #irc channel #twiderrific where you can talk to Michael and Rosner. If you have any questions to the guest you can ask in the irc too or use the contact form in This week in Django.
I really appreciate the amount of work and time they are putting into it. Its not really easy to do such stuff besides your regular job and life.
A few recommendations:
1). Keep the podcast running live so that users have the opportunity to ask questions. I know you are doing this but do tweet this a few hours before so that we can get ready for it.
2). Accept questions from users in #irc so that community also has an oppurtunity to interact with the guest.
Just exchanged a few words with Brian Rosner regarding this blog post. And these are the exact words from Brian "Expect something new and big from the guys at TWID"
What could that new and big thing be? Could it be the DjangoCon or the django 1.0 release. All we can do it wait for the TWID.
